Yuko Kaseki

Yuko Kaseki lives and works as a freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher in Berlin(1995-present).
She studied Butoh dance and Performing Art in HBK Braunschweig with
Anzu Furukawa and danced in her company Dance Butter Tokio and
Verwandlungsamt in 1989-2000.
Yuko Kaseki and Marc Ates founded the dance company cokaseki in 1995
and have been involved in various projects with musicians (Axel
Doerner, Aki Takase, Antonis Anissegos, Andrea Neumann, Johannes
Wallmann and others) and visual artist (Chiharu Shiota, Erika
Matsunami, Francois Giovangigli, Soren Do and others).
Since 1999 a series of performances of Kaseki’s choreographer was
produced such as Tooboe, Kudan, In the Flat Field, Naked Seed, a way a
lone a last a long the and Birthday-Suit –Me. Ensemble works such as
HOR, Haru Yayoi Chan Kou, Invisible Real, In the Flat Field, all A
lone, Ame to Ame, Anna Tommy Gramm and Let My Fish Loose. These are
performed throughout Europe, Japan and the USA.
These works are based on Butoh dance, western contemporary dance and
performance technique to create concise and precise dreamlike dance
theater. cokaseki has developed its own rich choreographic vocabulary
that is rhythmic and elegant – it follows the path, desperate existence
exposes tragicomedy in dense time and space to reveal a kaleidoscope of
stories.
Since 2001 she has collaborated with Shinichi Momo Koga and inkBoat
(San Francisco) create Cockroach, Onion, Ame to Ame and Glass Head.
She organizes and perform Improvisation Series “Ammo-Nite Gig” since
2004 with Musician (Axel Dörner, Toshihiro Koike, Matthias
Hermann, Sabine Worthmann, Andrea Neumann, Faun Fables, Degenerate Art
Ensemble, Sparky Quano, Antonis Anissegos) and Dancer & Performer
(Takako Suzuki, Nicola Mascia, Shinichi Momo Koga, Minako Seki, Mayumi
Fukuzaki, Yuri Nagaoka, Seisaku, Haruko Nishimura, Tanya Caramoneli,
Paige Solvillo, Sten Rudstrom) from Japan, USA and Europe.
Nomination
“Kudan” was nominated Toyota Choreography Award 2004 in Tokyo.
“Ame to Ame” received the Best Ensemble Performance, Isadora Duncan
Dance Award 2004 in San Francisco– nominated also for “Best
Choreography”, “Best Visual Design”, and “Best Composition”.
